When it comes to fifth wheel towing, picking the right truck is key! Many people think that any truck will do. While you can make almost any truck work when towing a fifth wheel, there are certain trucks that make towing MUCH easier. Take a look at what you should be looking for in your truck if you want maximum ease for towing.
- 3/4 Ton Pickups are your best bet. While most half-ton trucks are able to pull a fifth wheel, if you have a particular large fifth wheel, you might want to opt for the 3/4 ton pickup to allow your truck to be in control of the trailer.
- The bed length of your truck is also important. If you have a shorter bed, you might have to buy extensions to make sure your RV is secure. A longer bed is good for towing fifth wheels and will eliminate the need to buy extra extensions for the hitch.
2. How to Hook Up Your Hitch
Before you take off, you will also need to learn how to hook up your fifth wheel to a hitch. Try backing up, making smooth turns and feeling out how it feels to brake. Once you feel like you have mastered it, make your first trip a short one to start off.
