Nestled about 45 minutes northwest of Kansas City is a small town with lots of character. Weston, Missouri is one of the great small towns in Missouri and has been named "Best Day Trip to Take" by several publications. So what is there to do in Weston and why should you plan your next day trip there? Take a look!
1. Parks and Camping
Weston is home to one the best state parks in the entire state. Weston Bend State Park offers amazing views of the Mighty Missouri River and features great trails as well. If you want to camp, there are three different types of campsites, including family sites for you and your crew to camp. Besides the camping, Weston Bend also provides tons of outdoor activities to do as well. The trails in Weston Bend are fairly easy and the Weston Bluffs trail connects right into downtown Weston, which is popular for bicyclists that want to get a ride in while also taking in the shops. Hiking is also available on several trails as well. Hiking trails offer wooded scenery as well as great views of the river as well. Whether you want to relax and take in the scenery or go off the beaten path, there is a trail for you at Weston Bend.
2. Shop and Restaurants
Weston features tons of great shops and restaurants, most being local. Take in clothing boutiques, art galleries, hand crafted goods and much more as you walk around the downtown that is just dripping with history. Restaurants are also a key part of downtown Weston. With a great mix of cuisines from all over the world, you will be sure to find something that everyone will be happy with. Here are some great restaurants we would recommend going to:
- Avalon Cafe
- Tin Kitchen
- Weston Brewing Company
Another unique aspect of Weston is its number of wineries. Set in Missouri River Bluff wine country are two great wineries that we will tell you about.
One of the more famous places to visit in Weston is Pirtle Winery, which is housed in what used to be a German Lutheran Church back in the mid-1800s. If the history doesn't make it a must see, the wine certainly does! At Pirtle their wine is taking the entire process all on the first floor of the building. The second floor offers visitors a chance to taste the wine with a variety of breads, cheeses and more snack foods. In nice weather guests can sit outside and enjoy the wine as well.
Another winery that isn't technically in Weston but just outside of it is Riverwood Winery. Riverwood winery also offers guests the ability to enjoy their wines with meats and cheeses both outside on their patio and inside as well.
Weston is an amazing spot to take a day trip from, especially if you live in Kansas City. If you are looking to bring your RV to Weston Bend State Park, stop by Trailside RV where we have all the RV parts and accessories you may need!
